Holding On, Letting Grief In

Grieving someone who is still here

When someone you love has dementia, grief often begins long before they die — as their memory, personality, and the relationship you knew slowly change. This grief is real, common, and rarely talked about. This free program is here to help you understand it and live alongside it.

This program offers educational content, not therapy or medical advice. If you're in crisis, see our crisis resources. Read the full disclaimer.

What this program covers

Nine self-guided modules on anticipatory and ambiguous grief in dementia caregiving — from not being recognized, to guilt, to agitation and hard moments, to finding support and writing their story. Each module draws on published caregiver-grief research, includes concrete steps you can try today, and leaves space to reflect at your own pace. There's no account to create and nothing to sign up for.

Free and grounded in research

This program is free to use and always will be. Its content is informed by published, peer-reviewed research on grief in dementia caregiving — including studies on acceptance-based caregiver support and the ambiguous-loss framework — with sources cited on every module.

You're not the only one

Read stories shared by other caregivers — who their loved one was, and a memory of their time together — so they can be remembered by more than just the people who knew them.
